Artist's Comments

Wonderful Saint Cesare commissioned this piece from the scarily talented Yamer :iconyamer: here in DevianArt.

This is the Pupil from "The Art of Getting Some" [link] The man that is giving Azula a run for her fire.

He's wearing his own version of the Kyoshi Warrior uniform, which he designed to meet his own style. The facepaint is different because Kyoshi Warriors' facepaint is based on that of Japanese geisha culture. And the Pupil is 100% male, so that wasn't gonna fly. Fans, yes. Outfit, Okay. Geisha makeup... Hell no. Thus, the design Saint Cesare requested comes from kabuki theater.

The make-up style on his face is called kumadori, which is well known in kabuki. The bright red marks on his face represent anger, passion, force and rage mixed with cruelty; and it's also the calling card of a powerful hero.

The other is his own personal fighting garb, shirtless for Azula's, and all women out there, delight.

To provide respect to the Fire Nation, his colors are orange and gold, with the bottom of his hakama being outlined with golden flames on a black background.

The Pupil came up with this during that period of his youth when he was trying to "find his cool". He came out mighty HOT instead.

All this information was provided by Saint Cesare who, like me, thinks a lot about stuff. His suggestions are always invaluable. Thank you Prince Cesare!

And yes, when I saw this I had to get one of Suki's fans myself. And a glass of iced water.

This is amazlingly done, i like the details you put in both characters. Thanks for sharing what you said in the description, i like japanese culture and history a lot but here it's hard to find books and stuff for read about it. I have to do my own search by internet.
These two would be great in a videogame but just as they are now, not 3D.

Oh my god, I didn't do the drawing, Yamer did! My drawing skills are fairly limited, I swear. But I agree with you, the level of detail and beauty in this portrayal is delightful. Let's thank Saint Cesare for that.

We write (to express) ourselves through others... maybe because we're too afraid to express ourselves as ourselves... writing helps us to determine our true motives, dreams, and fears.- =illuminara

I love the symbolism behind both costumes and the blending of the earth and fire nations.
Beautifully done!
